Discipleship

I heard an interesting quote the other day that "Discipleship is the opperating system of the church."

Here's a question men...

If that is true then how do you disciple someone? How does discipleship happen?

Good question. The simple answer is "time." The only way I've ever seen individuals be impacted deeply (including myself) has been through significant amounts of time spent with each other. I think the difficult aspect of that is dividing between the organic aspect of discipleship and the organized part. In other words, how much of the time is informal living together where discipleship sort of happens by osmosis, and how much happens when we sit down and focus on some issue of following Jesus. In the end, I really think discipleship comes down to ministering the word to someone else. We disciple people as we help them to understand themselves and their lives in light of the scriptures. A lot of that happens formally and a lot happens informally, but the goal is to apply the Bible (which is chiefly and always about Jesus, the character and nature of God, and the Gospel) to life's reality.
